There are dozens of different types of vacuums in today’s market. The two main categories for vacuums are upright vacuums and canister vacuums. Within the canister vacuum category, there is a subcategory for a compact canister vacuum. These vacuums are smaller and more portable than their standard canister vacuum counterparts.

Negatives Of A Compact Canister Vacuum

Despite being smaller and more versatile than a regular canister vacuum, there are major downsides to the compact canister vacuum. First, this vacuum works off of straight suction, and does not have a revolving brush like the upright vacuums or the normal canister vacuums. While this does give an increase in the suction, the user loses the ease that comes with brush rollers.

In addition, these vacuums cannot cover as large of a surface as quickly as an upright vacuum or a regular canister vacuum. The suction is very localized, making it easy to pick up, for example, a small piece of paper on the floor or a broken cookie, but harder to clean an entire floor.

A compact canister vacuum is not designed to clean an entire living area. It is more intended to be used as a localized cleaner.

Positives Of A Compact Canister Vacuum

However, aside from the fact that a compact canister vacuum cannot effectively clean a large living area, it is still a great vacuum to keep around the house. Because it is often times a wet dry vacuum cleaner, this vacuum cleaner is extremely versatile. A normal vacuum cleaner cannot effectively clean up a wet mess, but the compact canister vacuum can. Without the revolving brush to get in the way, the compact canister vacuum can suction up almost anything at all.

This is the type of vacuum that someone would want to have in an outdoor shop to clean up heavy amounts of sawdust, a paint spill, or even standing water. A compact canister vacuum is also great to have in the house to use on every day messes like a broken dish, dirt, spilled food, and mud that someone trailed in from outside.

In addition, compact canister vacuums can be used where other vacuums cannot. They can be used on stairs, in vehicles, and around the edge of a room. Although a large vacuum can clean a carpeted area quickly, it cannot get the area right where the wall and floor meet. A compact canister vacuum can do this job effectively.
