microwaving Has Come A Long Way
For most people, microwaving involves making sure the bag of popcorn is placed right side up in the microwave or making the cold coffee in the cup does not come to a boil while heating it up. However, many companies that specialize in fast-cooked meals, microwaving can be really involved and produce a variety of tasty treats. For example, egg cookers are now available that allow eggs to be hard boiled in the microwave without fear of them exploding.
While the first working microwave oven may have been six-feet tall and weighed 750 pounds, today’s modern microwaves are small enough o fit just about anywhere there is a flat surface with access to en electrical outlet. For some folks microwaving includes baking potatoes, using steamers for vegetables and even cooking pasta in the microwave in less time, using less energy than boiling it on the stove.
There are also make microwavable frozen food meals that can cook in just a few minutes for those who do not want to cook a complete meal for one or two people every night or for taking to work and having for lunch. Many of the meals have been designed specifically for microwaving and even some of the breads used for microwavable sandwiches taste nearly as good as those bake din the oven.
Crisping Remains An Issue With Some Foods
Many snack food items taste better when the outer crust is crispy, such as pizza and companies have developed crisping sleeves to use in microwaving that help crisp the crust. Some work better then others and some are simple too moisture laden to help them crisp. Pre-cooked bacon is another popular item used in microwaving, especially when used in combination with burgers or, maybe some of those hard boiled eggs.
Many new pieces of cookware have been developed to make microwaving easier and more convenient. Some of the older cookware would melt from the heat of the contents in a microwave, and some would stain from leaving the product in during heating. Today’s cookware for microwaving is resistant to overheating and can usually be frozen as well as cleaned in the dishwasher.
Nearly every frozen or refrigerated food item being sold today also offers recipes for microwaving. For those that are still unsure of the quality and taste of the food coomed in a microwave, there is always the old standby of microwavable popcorn.
