Turn House Cleaning Into A Thriving Business
There are some people who find housework relaxing and they really enjoy doing it and some of these people have gone a step further and started a house cleaning business.
In fact starting a house cleaning business is relatively easy and pretty inexpensive. Of course if preferred you can purchase a house cleaning business franchise but these will involve more expense.
Most people have the cleaning materials that are required for house cleaning at their own homes so there is no need to rush out and buy expensive cleaners such as vacuums and floor cleaners. Of course once the business starts to build you will probably want to update your equipment but by then you will already have a building business.
You may also find that some clients prefer you to use their cleaning equipment and products. This is even better as you don’t have to lug tools around.
To be successful in the house cleaning business all you need is commitment, reliability and a desire to provide a much- needed service to your neighborhood. With these requirements fulfilled you could be earning a decent income within no time.
Do some research and find out what other individual or family owned house cleaning businesses are in the neighborhood. Find out what services they offer and how they price their jobs. You need to know how much your competition charges for a daily, weekly, bi weekly or a monthly service.
It may be easier to charge per job rather than per hour. Just think if you charge $80 to clean a 3 bedroom, 2-bath house you should be able to clean it on your own in 3-4 hours but as you gain more experience you will probably knock that time down to 2-3 hours. Now charging by job means that you will still get $80 but based on an hourly rate the fee will become less.
You could also break jobs down into individually priced items such as cleaning floor or cleaning out cupboards. These may not be regular jobs but will add to your income.
The fastest and possibly most effective way to attract new customers when you start your house cleaning business is to make up some fliers. Let people know what you do and how to contact you. The best way to do this is to either print 500 yourself or go to a print shop and have 500 printed. Take these flyers and leave them by the front doors of the homes in the neighborhood that you are targeting. 500 may sound a lot but in fact these could be delivered in one day.
Now we need to look at a few facts and figures. Most flyer campaigns average a 1-2% response and then 1 –2 sales from the responses.
So, 500 flyers will average 5-10 enquiries of which 1-2 will convert into a sale.
If you achieve 2 sales and charge $80 per house and clean both houses in one day you will have earned $160 for approximately 6-8 hours work.
Printing up more flyers and tackling new neighborhoods will mean that very quickly you should have several clients to work with and your house cleaning business will begin to thrive. And of course if you are conscientious these clients are likely to recommend your services to their friends and family. Word of mouth is really cheap and effective marketing.
